Steve Watkins

Steve Watkins of Clinton passed away peacefully, surrounded by love.

On April 1, 1995, Steve and Janice Petersen began sharing their life together, building a home filled with love, laughter, and family. Steve is survived by his daughter Ruth (Verlyn) Wiesner, and by Janice’s children Erik (Kristen) Petersen and Erin (Greg) Mandrell.

He was the proud grandfather of Max, Charlee, Taylor, Logan, Olivia, Aiden, Asiah, Ivori, and Jaxon, and will also be fondly remembered by other extended family members who touched his life.

Born February 28, 1960, in Bloomington, IL, Steve was the son of Gerald Watkins and the late Marilyn (Shell) Watkins. He is also survived by his siblings Tina Beck, Tom (Jill) Watkins, and Tonya Watkins, along with several nieces and nephews.

Earlier in life, Steve was married to Ruth’s mother, Michele Borth, and later to Kathryn Halleen, with whom he shared meaningful chapters of his journey.

A master jeweler and clockmaker, Steve carried on the proud tradition of his family’s business, Watkins Jewelry & Clock Repair. His dedication and precision earned a reputation that reached far beyond the Clinton community, drawing customers from throughout Illinois who valued his exceptional skill and integrity.

Those who knew Steve will remember his gentle spirit, quiet strength, and unwavering love for family. His kindness and humor will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to shine in the hearts of those who loved him.
 

Graveside services will be 10 AM Friday, October 24, 2025 at the Building Of Hope, East Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Bloomington, IL with Rev. Keith Blankenship officiating. Visitation will be 5 – 7 PM Thursday, October 23, 2025 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL.  In honor of Steve, the family requests purple, casual attire.
