Stephen L. “Steve” Best, 78 of Clinton, IL, passed away 3:02 P.M. September 17, 2025 at his family residence, Clinton, IL.

Services will be 11 AM Monday, September 22, 2025 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Allison Hitchings.  Burial will follow at Mausoleum Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL with military honors. Visitation will be 10 – 11 AM Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Dewitt County 4-H Fair Board.

Steve was born April 26, 1947 in Clinton, IL the son of Vachel T. and Mable R. (Roberts) Best. He married Catherine M. Lentz December 29, 1969 in Las Vegas, NV. She passed away April 11, 2009.

Survivors include his daughter, Kim (Chip) Atten, Clinton, IL, 3 grandchildren, Brandon Atten, Clinton, IL; Caleb Atten, Clinton, IL; and Emily Atten, Clinton, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Steve served his country in the United States Army, A Company of the 36th Engineers Brigade during the Vietnam War. Steve farmed most of his life and was the Harp Township Trustee for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
