Penny Diane Bateson

With heavy hearts, and profound sadness we share the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother,

great-grandmother, and friend, Penny, age 60, who passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025 surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on September 25, 1964, to Evelyn (Leevey) Moore Roberts and Arthur Murl Moore, she was a woman who lived fully, loved deeply, and never met a stranger. She married the love of her life, Steven Duane Bateson, on March 13, 1981, beginning a journey of 44 years together, filled with adventure, laughter, companionship, and devotion.

She was the proud and loving mother of six children: Steven (Christina) Bateson, Bobby (Alicia) Bateson,

Felicia (Matthew) Wible, Jonathan (Hannah) Bateson, Jacob (Amanda) Bateson, and Damion Bateson.

Her love extended even further to her 19 cherished grandchildren: Jordyn, Jaylee (Tyler), Lukaus, Mia, Sonny,

Joshuah, Ethan, Avonlee, Bella, Silka, Tatum, Joleona, Keaton, Brady, Remington, Tilas, Octavia, Walker,

and Finley, and to her great-grandchildren: Waylon, Wrexlee, and Baby Atchison, who is soon to arrive.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents and her sister, whose memories she carried with her always.

She was a woman of many passions: gardening, camping, mushroom hunting, garage saling, traveling, and

shooting pool-a skill she proudly enjoyed for over 25 years. She was also an enthusiastic shopper, especially

when it came to her weekly Temu packages. But her greatest joy came from simply being with her family,

creating memories and laughter through all stages of life.

Known for her adventurous and spontaneous spirit, she welcomed everyone with open arms-unless there were

too many, in which case she might say, "come back later!" She was selfless, warm, and full of love, always

quick with her favorite words: "I love you." She didn't know a stranger.

She leaves behind countless cherished memories:

Her husband, Steve, remembers their travels together around the world, just the two of them. Felicia loved

working alongside her mom. There were many long days spent pollinating soybeans and bonding over crime

podcasts in the greenhouse that she'll always cherish. Bobby treasures their 3 am late-night talks with popcorn.

Jake holds close their quiet one-on-one fishing trips. Jon finds comfort in the memories of camping and

fishing with his mom. Steven's favorite memory is when she used to get onto him for teasing Jordyn when she

told grandma on him, but also camping and going out on the lake to spend time together. Damion loved

traveling with his mom to Missouri to see his cousins.

If you take one look at Penny's life, it is clear- her priority was her family. She raised children and

grandchildren who could count on her, who she loved unconditionally, who she poured her heart and soul into,

devoting one-on-one time to each of them. In fact, she made everyone feel like her favorite, and in many ways

they all were.

Her legacy will live on in all the lives she touched, the love she gave freely, and the family she built and adored. She will live on in the faces of her children and grandchildren, and in the futures they build.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, June 19, 2025 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Pastor Jonathan Roberson officiating.  Burial will follow at DeLand Cemetery, DeLand, IL.  Visitation will be 10-11 AM Thursday at the funeral home.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Penny Bateson Memorial Fund c/o Steve Bateson.

She will be deeply missed but never forgotten-her spirit will live on in the laughter of her grandchildren, the

stories told around campfires, and every simple "I love you" shared in her memory.
