Master Sergeant David Wesley Hole, US Army (Retired), 67, of Mercedes, TX, passed away on June 10, 2025, at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis, IN.
Services will be 11:30 AM Monday, June 16, 2025, at the Calvert Funeral Home in Clinton, IL with Dr. Scott Sherwood officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL with full military honors. Visitation will be 5 – 7 PM on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the donor’s local VFW post.
David was born on June 22, 1957, in Indianapolis, IN, the son of Hurshell and Constance (Hill) Hole. He married Chris Hicks on May 10, 1980, in Decatur, IL.
Survivors include his wife, Chris Hole, Mercedes, TX; children, Cathryn (Joseph) Hart, Cape Girardeau, MO and Kimberly (Travis) Sumner, Clinton, IL; grandchildren, Caius Lange, Aurora Johnston, David Lange, Brockton Sumner, and Lilian Sumner; brother, Mike (Angela) Hole, Huntsville, AL; and his dog, Betsy.
David was preceded in death by his parents.
David enlisted in the US Army on June 18, 1975, and served his country until his retirement on September 30, 1998, after 22 years of service. For his meritorious service and outstanding achievement in Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm he received a Bronze Star. Upon his retirement, he was awarded the Legion of Merit. After his retirement, he then worked as an analyst for State Farm from 1998 until 2016. He was a member of the Weslaco First Baptist Church and an active member of the VFW+ Post 172 in Mercedes, TX. Along with woodworking, golfing, traveling and camping, David enjoyed walking his dog.
