Gerald "Jerry" E. Komnick

Gerald “Jerry” E. Komnick, 78 of Clinton, IL passed away 8:03 AM June 1, 2025 at his family home in Clinton, IL. 

Services will be 11 AM, Monday, June 9, 2025 at the Clinton United Methodist Church, Clinton, IL with Pastor Darrell Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL with military honors. Visitation will be 4 – 7 PM Sunday, June 8, 2025 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL. Jerry has requested family and friends attend services in their favorite Hawaiian or tropical attire.

Memorials may be directed to the Clinton United Methodist Church or the OSF Foundation.

Jerry was born March 30, 1947 in Carlinville, IL the son of Arthur B. and Marion E. Komnick. He married Rhonda L. Roady October 6, 1979 in Cerro Gordo, IL.

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda L. Komnick, Clinton, IL, children, Matt (Beth) Komnick, Monticello, IL and Aaron (Katie) Komnick, Clinton, IL, five grandsons, Aiden; Noah; Eli; Theo; Levi, brother, Marion A. (Rita) Komnick, Mesa, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Phil and David Komnick.  

Jerry entered the US Army in 1967 joining the Vietnam Conflict. He became a paratrooper and then an infantry squad leader. He was promoted to Staff Sargent (E-6) and was a Purple Heart recipient for being wounded in action and discharged in 1969. 

For 28 years Jerry worked for the Illinois Power Company. Starting in the Purchasing Department at Clinton Power station during its’ construction and operation. He then moved to become the Director of Material Management for Decatur Memorial Hospital for 10 years. Jerry was always the happiest being on his boat.
