Dennis Eveland

Dennis L.”Smokey” Eveland, of Vine Grove, KY, formerly of Clinton, IL, passed away Friday March 28th, 2025, in Elizabethtown, KY.

Cremation rites will take place in Kentucky with Memorial motorcycle rides and celebrations of life held at later dates both in Kentucky and Illinois to allow those who knew him to celebrate him.

Smokey was born September 16th, 1946, in Clinton, IL, to George Junior Eveland and Betty Jean Whitehouse.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his sister Patricia Eveland, brother Terry Eveland, and nephews Jeremy and Jason Eveland.

Survivors include his daughter Melinda and husband Rob Woollen of Bloomington, IL, her sister Vanessa Stephenson and her fiancé Randy Cooley of Brodhead, WI. Grandchildren Ragean and Diesel Woollen and Amelia McClure, Kelsey, Dennis the Third and Kaylee Eveland, and 16 great-grandchildren. As well as dear friends Joe and Lisa Pennell and family.

Smokey was a proud United States Army Veteran who served 2 tours in Vietnam. Anyone that knew him knows that he had a love of all things motorcycles, specifically Harley-Davidsons. That love combined with his pride as a veteran led him to motorcycle clubs where he found camaraderie and brotherhood. He was a former member of the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club and a retired member of the 2nd Brigade Motorcycle Club. He was also bestowed the honor of being a Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky and was part of the men and women who worked hard to make the Illinois Vietnam Veterans Memorial, in Springfield, IL, a reality.
