James E. “Jim” Bush, 77, of Champaign, IL formerly of DeLand, IL and Urbana, IL passed away 8:04 PM, August 26, 2024 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL.

Private family services will be at a later date with burial at DeLand Cemetery, DeLand, IL. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, DeLand, IL with arrangements. 

Memorials may be directed St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. 

James was born June 27, 1947 in Paxton, IL the son of Leland and Jane (Anderson) Bush.  He married Janet E. (Mullvain) Palmer October 11, 1991 in Champaign, IL. 

Survivors include his wife, Janet E. Bush, Champaign, IL, children, Patrick (Laura) Palmer, Downers Grove, IL and Douglas (Melody) Palmer, Nolensville, TN, grandchildren, Jonathan (Danielle) Palmer, Chicago, IL; Haley (Lydia Morrow) Palmer, St. Louis, MO; Allison Palmer, London, England, Evan Palmer, Nolensville, TN; William Palmer, Downers Grove, IL, great grandson, Julian Palmer. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Jim worked at Heartland Ag in Farmer City for many years. He was also the Mayor of DeLand for several years. He loved antiques and was a wonderful and caring grandfather. 

The family wishes to express a special “Thank You” to the staff at Carle Foundation Hospital for their compassion and care of Jim.
