James L. Hermes, Sr, 90, of Table Grove, Illinois passed away July 11, 2024, at The Elms Rehabilitation Center in Macomb, Illinois

 

Jim was born December 29, 1933, in Wilmington, IL, the son of Thomas "Mike" and Margaret (Steen) Hermes.  He married Diane F. Smolik July 7, 1962 in Ingleside, IL.  She survives.

 

Also surviving are his children, Sue (Alex) Calvert, Heyworth, IL, Dyann (Jim) Dailey, Foristell, MO, James (Angie) Hermes, Jr., Peru, IL and Kate (Matt) Ulmer, Sherman, IL.  Also surviving are his grandchildren: Anna (Craig) Rich, Jeannie (Garrett) Kelsey, Evan (Lauren) Calvert, Stephanie Dailey, Tommy Dailey, Tia Calvert, Sofia Calvert, Ella Hermes, Noah Hoffman, A.J. Hermes and Jack Hermes.  Great Grandchildren, Ellie Rich and Lanie Calvert.  A brother, Bill (Sylvia) Hermes of Bourbonnais, IL and sister, Bonnie (Ken) St. Peter of Watseka, IL also survive.

 

Jim was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Macomb.  He was an Army veteran serving in the Security Agency as a Sergeant E-5 and was stationed in Italy.

 

Jim received his undergraduate degree from Illinois State University in Normal, IL, his master's degree and Certificate of Advance Studies from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL.  He was an educator, his entire career serving as superintendent of various school districts throughout Illinois.  He was a past member of the Board of Directors of the McDonough Telephone Cooperative.

 

Funeral Service will be 5:00 pm Thursday July, 18, at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington, IL with Fr. Thomas Szydlik officiating.  A visitation will be prior to the funeral from 3-5 pm at Calvert & Metzler.  Memorials are to St. Jude's or American Heart Association.  Private Family burial will be Friday at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
