James Edward Thompson

James Edward Thompson 77 of Weldon, IL passed away 3:40 A.M. June 4, 2024 at McLean County Nursing Home, Normal, Il.

 

Graveside Services with Military Honors will be 12 noon, Friday, June 14, 2024 at Blairsville Cemetery, Carterville, IL with Rev. Larry Gilbert officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL.

 

Memorials may be directed to the Disabled American Veterans.

 

James was born January 14, 1947 in St. Louis, MO the son of Clarence Edward and Irma (Holland) Thompson. He married Martha Roate June 22, 1968.

 

Survivors include his wife, Martha Thompson, Keokuk, IA; children: James (Angelia) Thompson, IA; Troy (Teri) Thompson, Bondville, IL; Gary (Melinda) Thompson, Atlanta, IL; and LaDonna Chambers, Farmer City, IL; 16 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; siblings, Carol Crowley, Fort Myers, FL; Victoria (Jack) Phillips, Bush, IL; and Patricia Nance, Heron, IL.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John and Joey, and sister, Sondra.

 

James served his country in the United States Army.  He worked for Mobil Chemical and the Illinois D.N.R. at Moraine View State Park and Clinton Lake.  James was a groundskeeper and guide at the David Davis Mansion in Bloomington and a guide at Lincoln’s Tomb in Springfield.  He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed cars, and was a collector of everything.
