Helen Laverne Ballenger, 88, of Clinton, IL passed away 1:50 AM, April 1, 2024 at Carle BroMenn Medical Center, Normal, IL.

Services will be 11 AM, Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Pastor Skeet Stribling officiating.  Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton, IL.  Visitation will be 10-11 AM, Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Helen Laverne Ballenger Memorial Fund.

Helen was born November 28, 1935 in Clinton, IL the daughter of Otis and Helen Louise (Campbell) Newberry.  She married Charles H. Ballenger November 13, 1953 in Clinton, IL.  He passed away March 25, 1996.

Survivors include her children:  Billy Lynn (Debbie) Ballenger, Waynesville, IL; Chris Ballenger, Clinton, IL; and Charles Ballenger, Clinton, IL; seven grandchildren:  Derek (Christina) Ballenger, Atlanta, IL; Destiny Ballenger, Waynesville, IL; Chrystal Ballenger, Clinton, IL; Jamee (Jason) Sherlay, Maroa, IL; Christopher Luster, Springfield, IL, Staci (Scott O’Neal) Ballenger, Kenney, IL; and Chad (Kate Willis) Ballenger, Clinton, IL; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Twanda Reynolds, Clinton, IL also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; one sister; and daughter-in-law, Tamala “Tami” Ballenger.

Helen worked at Spurgeons Department Store where she was known by her son, Bob, as “The Coat Lady”.  She also served as the Past-President of A.B.W.A.  Most of all, Helen loved spending time with her family as that was the most important thing in her life.
