Hazel Roxan Agee

Hazel Roxan Agee, 93, of Maroa, IL passed away peacefully on Friday, January 19, 2024 at DMH with family by her side.

A private graveside service at Maroa Cemetery will be held on January 31, 2024 with Rev. Mary Alice Cunningham officiating. A celebration of life will be held in the Maroa Methodist Church basement for all to attend on January 31, 2024 at 2 PM with a luncheon to follow. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Maroa, IL with arrangements.

Hazel was born on May 11, 1930 to Anton Henry and Mary Jane (Woodside) Horn. She met her husband, Lyle, at a dance in Warrensburg, IL in February, 1948 and they were married May 30, 1948; two days after her graduation from Warrensburg-Latham High School. They set up housekeeping and farming in the Agee family home east of Maroa, where they lived for 47 years. Together they belonged to the Rose Acacia branch of the Eastern Star. Lyle passed away October 26, 2007.

Hazel loved to crochet and knit. She made hundreds of hats for children of all ages. She, also, loved to sew and quilt and became a valuable member of the Prayer Quilt group at the Maroa Methodist Church. Hazel spent 67 years working with the children in the nursery at Maroa Methodist Church. The pandemic caused her to give it up.

She leaves a brother, Floyd Horn of Decatur, along with her children: Rebecca (Gary) Becker of Argenta, Terry (Cheryl) of Maroa, Roberta Hunter of Warrenton, MO, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Lyle, she was predeceased by two sons, Gary and Ron, a sister, Erma Letterle, and a brother, Howard Horn.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Maroa United Methodist Church on Washington St. in Maroa, IL
