Phillip Ray Lamkin

Phillip Ray Lamkin, 70, of Clinton, IL passed away June 29, 2023. He was born November 22, 1952, in Clinton to parents Raymond W. and Dorothy (Klecka) Lamkin. He was married to Nancy Jo Brewer on August 6, 1977, in Champaign, IL. He received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Illinois where he earned the high honor of the Bronze Tablet award. He also graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law with a juris doctorate in 1978. As a devoted, lifelong Fighting Illini fan his favorite pastime was watching and attending games.

 

For over 40 years he was an attorney at Lamkin & Lamkin where he worked alongside both his father and his uncle, Thomas Lamkin. In addition, he also served periodically as a public defender for DeWitt County. He was a member of the DeWitt County Bar Association.

 

He joined the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity at the University of Illinois as an undergraduate and continued to serve as an officer of the local chapter as an alumni. Phillip was a dedicated member of The Rotary Club of Clinton where he was named the Rotarian of the Year in 2021 and a Paul Harris Fellow in 2002. For many years he was key organizer of and fixture at Rotary’s booth at Apple & Pork. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church.

 

Surviving are his wife; children, Amanda Stark, Katie Lamkin, Timothy (and wife Stacy) Lamkin; grandchildren, Ian Purkes, Lila Ward, Cara Ward, Callie Lamkin; brother, Raymond Lamkin III (and wife Connie), sister, Dorothy Hendricks. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Snickers. Preceded in death by his parents and brother William Lamkin.

 

The visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday July 7, 2023, at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL. The funeral mass will be St. John’s Catholic Church at 10:00 am on Saturday July 8 with Fr. Thomas Szydlik Celebrant. The burial will follow at Mausoleum Park Cemetery.
