Richard Eugene Spencer, son of George Spencer and Jean Shaffer Henry, died peacefully with his wife Bonnie at his side on May 13, 2023, at the age 76. He was greatly loved and will be forever missed. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alva Bonnie Spencer, his daughter Monica Lea Thomas and his two grandsons, Ryan Connor Thomas and Spencer Charles Thomas. His son, Richard Eugene Jr. predeceased his father in death February 16, 2016.

Richard was born April 14, 1947 in Clinton, IL but spent a large part of his life living in Tucson, Arizona. Richard met his wife, Bonnie, in Tucson, where he was a general contractor and owner of a property management company.

Also surviving are four siblings, Kaye (Bob) Wahoff, Christina Knoles, Karen (Bob) Pogue all of whom reside in North Carolina, James Michael Spencer of Potosi, MO. Richard is also survived by his Aunt Tootie (Spencer) Vogeler of Rochelle, Uncles Gary (Pim), Dave, and Ron Shaffer of Illinois, and many special cousins.

Richard was avid Harley rider, camper and animal lover.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to TAPS Animal Shelter, 100 Taps Lane, Pekin, IL. 61554.

Services will be 4 PM Friday, May 19, 2023 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Fr. Thomas R. Szydlik officiating. There will be no visitation.
