Harry O'Riley

Harry J. O’Riley, 88, of Maroa, IL passed away at 10:55 AM, October 10, 2019, at Hickory Point Christian Village, Forsyth, IL.

 

Masonic services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at the Maroa United Methodist Church, Maroa, IL with religious services to follow with Rev. Mary Alice Cunningham officiating.  Burial will follow at Maroa Cemetery, Maroa, IL with Military Honors. Visitation will be 10 – 11 AM Wednesday at the church. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Maroa, IL with arrangements.

 

Harry was born July 4, 1931, in Decatur, IL the son of Harry and Sophia (Miller) O’Riley. He was a Naval Korean War Veteran serving in the Coral Sea and later serving in the Naval Reserves. Harry retired from Revere Copper and Brass. He served on the Maroa City Council for twenty years and was a member of the Maroa Masonic Lodge and past member of the Lions Club, along with being a nearly sixty-year member of the Maroa United Methodist Church.

 

Harry married Margaret Gordon on January 7, 1956, at the Beecher City United Brethren Church. Survivors include his wife, Margaret, children, Vickie (Charles) Buckingham; Steven (Teri) O’Riley; Lori (David) Dougherty, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

 

His parents, two brothers, and four sisters preceded him in death.

 

Harry’s favorite times were spent with family and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorials to Maroa United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society, or American Heart Association.
