Jim was born April 3, 1949, in Monticello, a son of Warren N. and Betty B. Adams Hendrix. He married Debra Barnstable on Dec. 18, 1971, in Bement; she survives in Clinton.

Also surviving are two children, Dan (Shawna and Will Martin) Hendrix and Jenny (Rick Ritter) Hendrix, both of Clinton; as well as a granddaughter, Lilly Hendrix, also of Clinton; two brothers, Warren “Nob” (Carolyn) Hendrix of Ivesdale and Roger (Diane) Hendrix of Bement; and a sister, Peg Young of Monticello.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews, Kyle Hendrix and Greg Young.

Jim loved fishing, mushroom hunting, Cubs baseball, Illini football and basketball, and carpentry work. Jim loved helping people in whatever he could do. He did snow removal and mowing for many of his neighbors without even being asked. He was called many times to be a handyman for a lot of people. He was constantly helping out with family building projects. He also loved to bake, especially chocolate chip cookies. Jim's biggest pride, however, was spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Lilly.
