Robert P. O'Malley Jr.

Robert P. O’Malley Jr., 74, passed away peacefully at 4:07 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Farmer City Rehabilitation Center. Rob was born February 22, 1945, in Rockford, IL. Shortly after his birth, he was adopted by Robert P. and Dorothy (Gillespie) O’Malley Sr. Rob married Leigh Andruczk Dobbins on October 22, 1995.

 

Survivors include his wife, Leigh O’Malley of Farmer City; one son, Robert Fred O’Malley (Genevieve) of Mahomet; one sister, Mary Margaret Bragg (Bruce) of Mansfield; and two grandchildren, Iris and Hawke O’Malley. Rob was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Fred Gillespie O’Malley.

 

Rob was graduated from Michigan State University in Agriculture Business. He then joined his mother in the family business, the Harris Grain Company. After his mother’s retirement, Rob continued to manage the grain elevator which was eventually sold to Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM). After several years with ADM, Rob started his own grain company, O’Malley Grain, Inc., in LeRoy, IL, which dealt in food grade white corn. He built grain elevators in Mansfield, IL and Omaha, NE. He transferred his business to Mansfield and managed the elevators in Omaha and Mansfield. Rob served in the Illinois National Guard. 

 

Rob will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was a character who always made gatherings fun and interesting. He felt great responsibility for those he loved and prided himself for being a guardian angel to many people in his life.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 3, 2019, at 10:00 A.M., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Farmer City, Illinois, with Father James Henning, O.F.M. officiating. Inurnment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Farmer City. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fred G. O’Malley V.F.W. Post 6190 in Farmer City.
