David E. Hoyt

David E. Hoyt, 75, peacefully passed away March 14, 2019 at Liberty Village in Clinton. He was born March 28, 1944 in Decatur to Kenneth E. and Ila M. Hoyt.

Dave graduated from McArthur High School in 1962 and then attended SIU in Carbondale. He returned home to Decatur to join his father in the homebuilding business, something he always wanted to do. He was a carpenter by trade at that time, eventually going into business for himself and becoming a well-known building contractor, building homes and multi-family homes in Decatur, Jupiter Florida, and Lake of the Ozarks for many years. Later, his son, Jeff Hoyt, would become the third generation to become a home builder. Dave married Jeanette Ferguson in 1964, and they had 55 wonderful years of marriage.

Dave is survived by his wife, Jeanette; a son, Jeff (Tonya) Hoyt; and a daughter, Amy (Rob) Arthur. A much-loved papa, he leaves grandchildren, Jordon Hoyt, Rhobie Arthur, Ryley Arthur, and Rachel Hoyt (Josh) Bentz. Dave was blessed with two great-granddaughters, Oakley Rose Bentz and Hadley Grace Bentz. Dave is also survived by sisters, Karen Hoyt and Jackie (Sam) Younker; and sisters-in-law Cathy (Scott) Wilkinson and Alice (Frank) Montagnino; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in memory of Dave to Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 832, Decatur, IL 62521 to help continuing building homes for those who need them.

The Hoyt family would like to thank the staff, and especially nurse Melissa, in the Manor Court section of Liberty Village for the careful care they gave our loved one, Dave.

Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded by Graceland/Fairlawn Cremation Center. A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 23rd from 2 to 4 p.m. at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Following the visitation, the family will host a Celebration of Life for Dave at Doherty’s, 242 E. William Street in Decatur at 5 p.m. Please drop by if you can. The family would love to see you and reminisce.
