Pastor Samuel Leroy Thompson, 88, of Mahomet, IL passed away at 9:08 AM, February 23, 2019 at Bridle Brook, Mahomet, IL.

 

Services will be 2 PM, Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Lake of the Woods Church, Mahomet, IL with Pastor Matthew Johnson (Samuel Leroy’s grandson) and Pastor Dave Lutes officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Mahomet, IL with Military Honors. Visitation will be 12:00 noon – 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at the church. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL is in charge of arrangements.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lake of the Woods Church, Mahomet, IL.

Samuel Leroy was born June 8, 1930 in Rock Road, AR the son of Jim and Golden (Spencer) Thompson. He married Betty F. Waldron May 29, 1953 in Pocahontas, AR. 

 

Survivors include his wife, Betty F. Thompson, Mahomet, IL; children: Phyllis (Skip) Lloyd, Lancaster, OH; Patricia (Mark) Mueller, St. Charles, MO; Stephen (Karen) Thompson, Edwardsville, IL; and Scott (Katie) Thompson, Oregon, WI; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sister, JoAnn Ross, Knoxville, TN.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, 3 brothers and 1 sister.

 

Pastor Thompson became a minister at the age of 19. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Central Bible College, Springfield, MO and was ordained as an Assembly of God Pastor in 1958.
