George W. Cope

George W. Cope, 95, of LeRoy, passed away at 1:42 a.m. Monday (Feb. 4, 2019) at OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

 

He was born Aug. 21, 1923, in Ellsworth, to Frank and Lizzie Hess Cope. He married Catherine VanWinkle on Oct. 12, 1951, in Colfax. She survives along with three sons, Ricky Cope, Cary; Dwayne Cope, McHenry; and Ronald Cope, Cary; two grandchildren, Bob (Sue) Cope, Pam (Tony) Passarelli; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Dale (Ina) Cope, Vincennes, Ind.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and five brothers.

 

George was a United States Army veteran. He first started out farming on the family farm then went to work for Curtis Breeding Services in Cary until its closing, then retired from Warwick Publishing.

 

He was a member of the LeRoy Christian Church.

 

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington. A graveside service will follow the visitation at East Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Bloomington.
