Charlotte M. Ambrose

Charlotte M. Ambrose, 90, passed away at her home on Saturday, November 10, 2018, surrounded by her family. 

 

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Downs. Inurnment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, LeRoy. Visitation will be at the church at 10:00 am on Saturday before the funeral service.

 

Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, LeRoy is in charge of arrangements.

 

Charlotte was born February 11, 1928 in Champaign, the daughter of Louis Mittendorf and Alice Bannin. 

 

Charlotte graduated from University High School, Urbana. 

 

She married Joe Ambrose on August 18, 1948 at Holy Cross Church, Champaign. 

 

She is survived by five children: Julie Ambrose, St. Charles; Mary Ambrose, New York, NY; Joseph (Julianne) Ambrose, Mahomet; James (Kathryn) Ambrose, Springfield; and Margaret Ambrose, Peoria. 

 

She was preceded in death by her husband Joe and by her son Gregory R. Ambrose. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

 

Throughout her life, Charlotte was artistic and creative. She loved gardening, photography, sewing and quilting. She worked extensively with pottery, creating many pieces that are family treasures. She also enjoyed playing bridge with friends, and was an avid University of Illinois football fan.

Charlotte and Joe were members of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Downs. Over the years, Charlotte served as a Eucharistic minister, a Sacristan and a Catechism teacher. She was also an active supporter of Catholic charities.

 

Joe and Charlotte were married for 69 years prior to Joe’s death. They enjoyed golfing and spending time together, especially in Florida. Charlotte was an active partner with Joe in supporting community and charitable activities in LeRoy. Charlotte was blessed with the support of dedicated and loving care providers. Her family wants to thank Janet, Sally, Sherri, Gayle, Maggie and Lee for their kindness and compassion in helping Charlotte. We would also like to thank OSF Hospice Care for their support.
