Barbara Helen Alvey

Barbara Helen Alvey, 82, of Le Roy, Illinois, passed away at 10:43 A.M. Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at Le Roy Manor. 

 

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 10, 2018, at St. Mary Church in Downs, Illinois. Inurnment will be at a later date.

 

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Friday, November 9, 2018, at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Le Roy, Illinois. A Rosary Service will be at 4:30 P.M., Friday, November 9, 2018, at the funeral home. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the McLean County Humane Society.

 

Barbara was born August 16, 1936, in Princeton, Illinois, to James R. and Celia S. Piasyk Herron. She married James Roger Alvey on May 21, 1960, in Wyanet, Illinois. He survives.

 

Barbara is also survived by her two sons, Brian Alvey of Gridley, Illinois, and Bruce (Laurie) Alvey of Bloomington, Illinois; two daughters, Lisa (Bill) Toohill of Le Roy, Illinois, and Lori (Larry) Baker of Colfax, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Robert Herron and daughter-in-law, Pam Alvey.

 

Barbara was a United States Navy veteran. She was a member of St. Mary Church in Downs and Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She owned and operated Alvey’s Market in Gridley, Illinois, from 1975 - 1983 and then proceeded to work in the grocery business for many years until retirement in 2001.

 

Barbara was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted friend who will be deeply missed.
