Frances Lois Glawe, 90, of Farmer City passed away at Farmer City Rehabilitation and Health Care on November 3, 2018. 

Frances was born on September 29, 1928, in Herrin, IL. She was the daughter of James and Dallas Hickok Wood. She graduated from Cairo High School and pursued her degree in education at Southern Illinois University, participating in the sorority Sigma, Sigma, Sigma while there. On June 8, 1952, she married Howard D. Glawe. 

Frances taught for 25 years, the majority of her career at Franklin School in Farmer City. While teaching, she obtained her Master’s from the University of Illinois. She enjoyed her students and colleagues and was a natural storyteller and artist. As a history buff, she relished the fact that she was a collateral descendant of ¨Wild Bill¨ Hickok and was sure to tell her students. During her career, she also served as an IEA delegate, 4H leader, and Bible school teacher. 

Howard and Frances purchased a family farm in 1965. They took great pride in their home, a farm full of special memories for their family, and formed life-long friendships with their country neighbors. During her retirement years, Howard and Frances traveled the country on Farm Bureau trips. Frances often returned to teaching as a substitute for the Blue Ridge School District. Never one to sit idle, Frances could usually be found sewing and creating, landscaping and collecting, and enjoying coffee with her treasured friends. 

She was preceded in death by her sister, Wilda Wood. Surviving are her husband and children Curtis (Julie) Glawe and Colleen Manuel of Farmer City, three grandchildren: Aaron (Kamie) Manuel, Andrea (Adam) Weedman, and Molly (Andrew) Schneman, and six great-grandchildren. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Fullerton Cumberland Presbyterian Church or Monticello Faith in Action. 

A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, November 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce funeral home in Farmer City and the burial service will take place at a future time.
