Caroline Ann Hamlow

Caroline Ann Hamlow, 101, formerly of Heyworth, passed away at 11:45 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 9, 2018) at Luther Oaks, Bloomington. She has been awaiting her chariot ride to heaven just like Elijah was carried by a whirlwind into heaven (2 Kings 2:11).
 
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bloomington. Pastor Terry Strom will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church and School. Interment will take place at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington.
 
Caroline was born July 17, 1917, in Miller, Iowa. She was the daughter of William and Anna Laesch Kummer. Caroline graduated from Bloomington High School. After graduation, she worked at State Farm Fire and Casualty in downtown Bloomington until she married Howard Carl Hamlow on Nov. 30, 1939. They farmed northeast of Heyworth since 1944. They celebrated 63 years together. Howard preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 2002, at the age of 90.
 
Caroline was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the altar guild for 17 years. She was active in several organizations throughout her life. She was a member of Home Extension for 37 years, a cook at the Heyworth Grade School for 17 years, retiring in 1985. She was a 4-H leader for 10 years. She was a member of Flying Farmers for 30-plus years. During that time, she and Howard flew all over Illinois, the United States and Canada. They made many flying farmer friends and Caroline was the Flying Farmer Queen for the Illinois Chapter on more than one occasion. She was also an avid golfer at Highland for 15-plus years after retiring.
 
She is survived by her children, Karen (Hamlow) Connelly, Fort Myers, Fla.; and Donald Hamlow, Nila (Don) Deatrick and Carol (Mike) Limer, all of Heyworth.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Frank Kummer and William Kummer; one half-brother, Donald Kummer; and one infant son, Mikel Carl Hamlow.
 
Caroline was the grandmother of 12 granddaughters, Hali (Connelly) Roderick, Kristi (Connelly) Brownfield, Dawn (Maccs) Lavecchia, Mila (Maccs) Noblett, Shani Connelly, Deanna (Deatrick) Bair, Jaci (Connelly) Chounard, Tracy Deatrick, Erin (Hamlow) Redd, Tara (Limer) Wells, Erica (Hamlow) Turner and Megan (Limer) Winters. She had 24 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
 
Caroline's confirmation verse she always remembered is "You are bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's." 1 Corinthians 6:20
