Ray Carson Carlton 93 of DeLand, IL passed away 5:36 A..M. July 6, 2018, at OSF Heart of Mary, Urbana, IL.

 

Visitation will be 10 – 11 AM Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at the Calvert Funeral Home, DeLand, IL with Pastor Chris Smithey and OSF Urbana Chaplain Bob Frank officiating. Graveside services will follow at DeLand Cemetery, DeLand, IL with Military Honors.

 

Memorials may be directed to Curtis Road Church of God, Champaign, IL.

 

Ray was born December 30, 1924, in Little River Township, Alexander County, NC, the son of William Henry and Mary Caroline (Williams) Carlton. He married Maxine Simon January 21, 1962, in Elvaston, IL.

 

Survivors include his wife: Maxine Carlton, DeLand, IL; children: Shirley (Dan) Thomas, Maryville, TN, Brenda (Ben) Sliwinski, Urbana, IL, and Pam (Paul) Latham, Murray, KY; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister: Gertrude Shirey, Sullivan, IL.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 grandson, and 3 brothers.

 

Ray was a meat cutter for many years and a greeter at Sams for 13 years in Champaign, IL. He enjoyed preaching, reading the bible and gardening.
