Leon A. ‘Moe’ Benson, 93, of Monticello, passed away at 1:28 a.m., June 13, 2018 at the Piatt County Nursing Home.
Moe was born May 21, 1925 in Piatt County, IL the son of William and Helen (Ferry) Benson. He married Mary Kay Clodfelter on May 22, 1950 in Arkansas. She died April 24, 1994.
Moe is survived by his children, Mark Benson of Bechtelsville, PA, Scott ‘Mojo’ Benson of Osmond, IL, Doug Benson of Monticello, IL and Shelley Benson of Granite City, IL; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Suggs of Alabama, Bertice Dresback of Decatur, Barbara Simpson of Hoopeston. He was preceded in death by his parent’s, wife, 3 brothers and 6 sisters.
Moe was a concrete and Labor Local worker. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II and the Korean War. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Monticello Sages fan. Most of all Moe was well known for his love of fishing.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the Monticello Township Cemetery.
