Jimmie Edward "Pete” Birk,75, passed away at 7:54 p.m. on June 7, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

 

Pete was born on August 20, 1942, in Newton, IL; son of George and Nellie (Stanley) Birk. He married Linda Mulvaney on October 24, 1959, in Lincoln, IL. She survives him.

 

Also surviving Pete is his son: Ed (Lisa) Birk of Lincoln, IL; two grandchildren: Whitney (Josh) Birk and Brian (Abby) Birk also of Lincoln; one brother: Gilbert (Sandy) Birk of Lincoln, IL; one sister-in-law: Verna Birk of Clinton, IL; one brother-in-law: Lawrence Jones of Lincoln, IL. Pete was preceded by his parents and his siblings: Hobert Birk, Patricia Calvo, Linda Smith, Eloise Jones, Katie Lee, and Benny Birk.

 

Pete worked until his retirement as an engineer at Lincoln Developmental Center and was a member of Open Arms Christian Fellowship. He was a United States Army veteran.

Services for Pete will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln with Larry Crawford officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial at New Union Cemetery will follow the service, where full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post #263. Memorials may be made in Pete’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Memorial Home Hospice.
