Mary Ellen Smith, 86 of Farmer City, IL passed away 1:27 AM March 22, 2018, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL. 

 

Services will be 11 A.M. Monday, March 26, 2018, at the Calvert Funeral Home, DeLand, IL with Scott Whitehouse officiating. Burial will follow at DeLand Cemetery, DeLand, IL. Visitation will be 9:30 – 11:00 A.M. Monday at the funeral home. 

 

Memorials may be directed to Farmer City American Legion Post # 55.

 

Mary was born December 21, 1931, in DeLand, IL the daughter of Charles Todd and Eva (Jones) Sprague. She married Richard W. “Dick” Smith March 26, 1950, in DeLand, IL.

 

Survivors include her beloved husband, Richard W. “Dick” Smith of Farmer City; daughter, Brenda Cox of Farmer City; son, Rodney Smith of Farmer City; grandson, Todd Cox (Lindsey) of Decatur; and three great-grandchildren, Tanner, Madeline, and Ainsley Cox. She is also survived by a sister, Wanda Bedford of Mahomet; brothers, Robert Sprague of Maroa and Joseph Sprague of Nevada. 

 

She is preceded in death by her Father and Mother.

 

Mary worked at the IGA in Farmer City, IL for many years before becoming a homemaker for her family. For over 60 years, Mary had been a member of the American Legion Axillary in Farmer City. She was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a great support system for those around her. 

 

She enjoyed rocking, cuddling and playing with her three great-grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoyed ceramics and hosting craft shows out of her home.
