Barbara Barton

Barbara Emma (Baker) Barton, 69, of Weldon, passed away 10:45 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 15, 2018) at her home, surrounded by her family.
 
Her service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. Burial will follow at Nixon Township Cemetery, Weldon. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
 
Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to OSF Hospice.
 
Barbara was born Sept. 4, 1948, in Monticello, to Lester and Jennie (Downs) Baker. She married Jim Barton on June 25, 1977, in Weldon. He survives.
 
Also surviving are their children, Samuel (Danielle) Barton, Litchfield; Jennifer (Ben) Schneider, Flanagan; Michelle (John) Wolfe, Chandler, Ariz.; Matthew (Debbie) Barton, Bloomington; Melinda (Rick) Wallace, Andalusia, Ala.; Monica (Scott) Ohlenkamp, Farmer City; grandchildren, Emma, Jake, Cohen, Noah, Claire, Christina, Chelsea, Megan, Melissa, Mackenzie, Rebecca, Christopher; and six great-grandchildren; brother, Sam Baker, Wellfleet, Mass., and sister, Kathryn White, Danville.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents.
 
Barbara graduated from DeLand Weldon High School. She went on to attend Illinois State University, graduating with a teaching degree. She taught elementary school for 30 years. She enjoyed boating and swimming and luncheons with her girlfriends. She treasured time with her grandchildren, reading to them and playing. She was actively involved in the prison ministry as a faithful pen pal and adjustment facilitator. Barbara lived a God-centered, caring, always optimistic life.
