Robert J. Cheek

Robert J Cheek, 93 of Normal, IL passed away 6:36 P.M., January 25, 2018, at the Gibson Community Hospital Annex, Gibson City, IL. 
 
Services will be at a later date. The family has entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with arrangements.
 
Memorials may be directed to the Arthritis Foundation or the American Heart Assoc.
 
Robert was born February 18, 1924, in Aledo, IL the son of NJ and Johanna (Nagel) Cheek. He married Harriett Jean Johnson August 8, 1948, in Abingdon, IL. She passed away September 13, 2012. 
 
Survivors include his 3 sons: Timothy (Michelle) Cheek, Champaign, IL, Kirby (Melinda) Cheek, Bloomington, IL and Paul Cheek, St. Charles, IL; 3 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. 
 
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.
 
Robert, or more commonly Bob, was a member of the United Methodist Church of Normal and Clinton. He was a member of the Clinton Masonic Lodge as well as past Master of Urbana Masonic Lodge. While serving in the US Army during WWII in the European Campaign, he was awarded the Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters. After retiring from the University of Illinois Purchasing Department, he and Harriett moved to Arkansas where he enjoyed life as a woodworker and as an avid fisherman. Returning to Central Illinois to be closer to family, he lived in Clinton IL for several years and later moved to Evergreen Assisted Living in Normal IL.
