Rick L. Perkins

Rick L. Perkins, 62, of Windsor, formerly of Oreana, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018, in his home surrounded by his family. 
 
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 29, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 4-8 P.M. Sunday, January 28, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, and 10-11 A.M. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials may be made to Pilgrim Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. 
 
Rick was born December 30, 1955, in Decatur, the son of Robert Perkins and Betty (Benson) Funkhouser. He married the love of his life, Debbie, on February 14, 1975. 
 
Rick began working in the storeroom at Adolph Meyer Mental Health Center in 1974. He also worked in maintenance and as an engineer there until 1995. He became Chief Engineer of the Decatur Correctional Center from 1996 to 2002. 
 
He was a member and Financial Secretary of Pilgrim Lutheran Church since 1975, and member and President of Argenta Oreana School board. 
 
Rick and Debbie designed and built their dream home in 2006. If anything could be built or fixed, Rick would be the one to do it. 
 
Rick always put his family first! He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and watch his grandson play baseball. Rick coached girls softball in Oreana, and was an avid fisherman and hunter with longtime friend, Mark Brown. 
 
Rick is survived by his wife of 42 years, Debbie, of Windsor; daughters, Amy L. Cassell (Brian) of Mt. Zion and Amber N. Saul (Brad) of Sullivan; grandchildren, Brianna and Alexis Cassell and Caden and Ryder Saul; sisters, Pam Roan of Decatur and Tina Campbell of Oreana; mother, Betty Funkhouser of Decatur. 
 
He was preceded in death by his father and stepfather, Bob. 
 
Everyone that met Rick loved him, and he would do anything for anyone. 
 
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the oncology department of Carle Hospital, especially Dr. Vasireddy, Jane, and nurses Jennifer and Vanessa.
