Robert Eugene Mowbray, 86, of Normal, Illinois, passed away at 8:52 A.M., Sunday, January 14, 2018, at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal, Illinois. 

 

His visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Thursday, January 18, 2018, at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Heyworth, Illinois. A Masonic Service will follow at 7:00 P.M., Thursday, January 18, 2018, at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Heyworth, Illinois. Robert’s funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 19, 2018, with Rev. Linda Vonck officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Township Memorial Cemetery, Heyworth, Illinois, with military rites accorded. 

 

Memorial donations may be made to the United Church of Heyworth Good Samaritan Fund.

 

Robert “Gene” was born September 6, 1931, in Farmer City, Illinois, a son of Joseph Robert and Mary Edith Snow Mowbray. Joseph died when Robert was only 4 years old. Robert, his mother, and brother moved to the family farm in Heyworth to live with his grandparents, William Harris (Amanda) Snow. He married Glenna Roberta White on May 15, 1950, in Heyworth, Illinois. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2005. 

 

He is survived by his daughters, Diana (Don) Hancock of Heyworth, Illinois and Lisa (Larry) Fields of Bloomington, Illinois; five grandchildren, Mindy (Shane) Arndt of Fisher, Illinois; Mark (Jessica) Hancock of Groveland, Illinois; Megan (David) Tjaden of Heyworth, Illinois; Kayla (Keith) Fuentes of Chillicothe, Illinois, and Mitchell Fields of Bloomington, Illinois; and seven great-grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and brother, John Mowbray.

 

Robert was a proud US Navy veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the Heyworth American Legion. He worked in the accounting department at State Farm for 42 years, retiring in 1993. Robert was a very active 32 degree Mason in the Bloomington Masonic Lodge #43 A.F. & A.M. serving as a previous Grand Master.

 

Gene was a man of few words with a big heart who was deeply loved by his family. He will be greatly missed.
