Herbert Amos Weedman

Herbert Amos Weedman 92 of Casey, Illinois formerly of Farmer City, IL passed away 6:25 AM January 4, 2018, at Casey Health Care Center, Casey, Illinois.
 
Private family graveside services will be at DeLand Cemetery, DeLand, IL. There will be no visitation. Calvert Funeral Home, DeLand is in charge of arrangements.
 
Memorials may be directed to Wounded Warrior Project.
 
Mr. Weedman was born November 13, 1925, in Bloomington, IL the son of Amos and Marguerite (Stone) Weedman. He married Edith Foster June 6, 1953, at the Monticello United Methodist Church in Monticello. They were married for nearly 52 years until her death in 2005. He spent the last decade of his life with his companion, Dorothy Strange. She preceded him in death in 2017
 
Survivors include his children: Pam (Bill) Maibach, Morton, IL, Vicki (Jay) Tyler, Nashville, TN, Mark (Sandy) Weedman, Kansas City, MO, Jim (Sherry) Weedman, Casey, IL. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, son: Thomas J. Weedman, sister: Helen Wiggins, and one grandson.
 
Mr. Weedman grew up in rural Piatt County and graduated from DeLand Township High School in 1945. He served as a corporal in the Army during the Korean War as a member of the 443rd and 747th Engineers, including a stint as a turnapole operator while stationed in Tulle, France.
 
A longtime resident of Farmer City, Mr. Weedman was a farmer in rural Piatt County for more than 50 years. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Mahomet and the American Legion in Farmer City. A devoted husband and family man, he possessed a sharp sense of humor and a generous spirit. He enjoyed Norton motorcycles, vacationing with his family in Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach, FL, and finally seeing the Chicago Cubs win the World Series in 2016.
