Harrison A. Turley

Harrison A. "H.T.” Turley, 92, of Lincoln, passed away Saturday Morning at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side.
 
Harrison was born on March 30, 1925, in Lincoln, IL; son of Ora Harrison and Ora Emily Clemens Turley. He married Nola Willmert on June 14, 1952, in Searcy, AR. She survives him.
 
Also surviving are his children: Darnell L. Turley of Cantonment, FL, Kevin A. Turley of Whitesburg, TN, Mark V. Turley of Murfreesboro, TN, Randall D. Turley of Clinton, IL, Cinda L. Lubich of Litchfield, IL, Rhonda J. Manus of Lincoln, IL, and E. Gerian Rahn of Lincoln, IL; one brother: Charles E. Turley of Kimberling City, MO; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Henry and Harold Turley, and one sister: Mary Elizabeth.
 
Harrison graduated Lincoln Community High School in 1943, after high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy for active duty from March 29, 1943- April 5, 1946. He served as Chief Radio Operator for the Merchant Marines from 1946-1955.
 
He worked at PPG for 30 years and retired in 1987. He was chosen PPG Citizen of the Year in 1978 and received 1,000 dollars for charity of choice. H.T. also worked for over 20 years at Lincoln Park District. Harrison was very active in Boy Scouts of America, serving many areas. He enjoyed the annual fishing derby at Goodman’s Ponds in Atlanta, IL, coached Little League Baseball and loved baseball, as he was a pitcher for the Men’s Fast Pitch Baseball. He was a member of the American Legion Post #263 and Lincoln Southern Baptist Church.
 
A memorial service for Harrison will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln with Rev. James Williford officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to service. Burial at Zion cemetery will follow the service where full military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #263. Memorials may be made in Harrison’s name to Boy Scouts Of America.
