Ramona C. Henricks

Ramona C. Henricks, 94, of Cerro Gordo, died December 7 after a brief, serious illness. 
 
Ramona was the daughter of Bert L. and Lorraine W. (Wilson) Chapman. She graduated from Cerro Gordo High School in 1940, and attended Millikin University, where she was the first female drum major. She enlisted in the US Navy WAVES, honorably discharged November 17, 1945. 
 
She married Firman E. Henricks, also of Cerro Gordo, on June 25,1944. The couple had 5 children. Mrs. Henricks worked as secretary in the Cerro Gordo schools. She completed her degree at Millikin in 1966, then taught in Cisco and Deland-Weldon before earning her Master's degree at the U of I. She taught business education at Cerro Gordo High School until her retirement in 1985. Mrs. Henricks was active in the CG Woman's Club, the Cerro Gordo Alumni Association, Retired Teachers' Association, and the Macon County Salon of the 8 &40. She was very involved in the American Legion, and was a charter member of the Cerro Gordo American Legion Auxiliary Unit 117. She filled numerous local, county, District, and Division offices in the Auxiliary, and served as IL State President in 1971-72. She was also a National Central Division Vice President. Ramona was a long-time volunteer at the VAMC in Danville, IL, and the Decatur VA clinic, having served over 15,000 hours for our Veterans. She was a member of the Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church. 
 
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, sister Caroline Chapman, sister Martha C. Glennon (Robert), brother Lawrence R. Chapman (Clare), son Craig Henricks, daughters Madeline H. Devereux (Harry) and Barbara Jo Bennett (Rodger), and great-granddaughter, Lauren Young. 
 
She is survived by sister Karen Hale (Felix) of Sullivan, IL, daughter Doreen Henricks of Tucker, GA, son Todd Henricks (Jane) of Cerro Gordo, grandchildren Jay Bennett (Beth), Nicole Young, Andrea Catchings, Leah Henricks, Noah Henricks, 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 
 
Visitation will be Saturday, December 9, at the Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm with a funeral service at 2:00pm at the church, with Pastor James Allison and Chaplain Matt Filiscky officiating. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery, Cerro Gordo, IL. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Cerro Gordo, will be assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to Cerro Gordo Alumni Memorial Scholarship Fund or the Department of Illinois American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship Fund.
