Merrill Bishop

Merrill Bishop, 90, of Decatur, formerly of Mt. Pulaski, passed away at 3:48 P.M. Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at Heritage Manor in Mt. Zion.
 
Merrill was born on July 12, 1927, in Fairfield, IA, to Sherman and Etta (Murphy) Bishop. He married Patricia Karns on September 18, 1947. She survives him in Decatur.
 
Also surviving are three sons, John (Julie) Bishop of Mt. Pulaski, David (Leann) Bishop of Corpus Christi, TX, and Michael (Chay) Bishop of Decatur, 3 sisters, Patricia Peebler of Red Bluff, CA, Connie Miller of Las Vegas, NV, and Mary Jane Johnson of Green Lake, WI, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
 
Merrill managed several fertilizer plants during his career. He was a United States Navy veteran serving in WWII. He was a lifetime member of the Mt. Pulaski American Legion Post #447 where he was a past commander and was also a member of the VFW Post #777.
 
Services will be on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Mt. Pulaski with Rev. Jeffrey Laible officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services (10:00-11:00) at the church. Military honors will follow services at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mt. Pulaski.
