John William Pool

John William Pool, 88 of Bloomington, IL passed away 2:30 P.M. August 9, 2017 at Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello, IL.
 
Services will be 10:30 AM, Monday, August 14, 2017 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Chaplain Ryan Edgecombe officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL with Military Honors. Visitation will be 3 – 5 PM, Sunday, August 13, 2017 at the funeral home.
 
Memorials may be directed to the American Legion Post 54, Fairbury, IL.
 
John was born September 23, 1928 in rural Chenoa, IL the son of Gordon and Josephine (Boian) Pool. He married Elizabeth Baker in 1956.  He later married Rosemary Bornder in 1992.
 
Survivors include his wife: Rosemary Pool, Bloomington, IL; children: Cheryl (Gary) Connelley, Bement, IL; Mark W. (Tamara) Pool, Clinton, IL; Gary L. Pool, Belleville, IL; and Cathy J. (Joseph) Perritano, Scottsdale, AZ; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; step-children: Connie (Pete) Bachman, Lexington, IL; and Vicky (Curt) Meiner, Colfax, IL; five step-grandchildren and six step-great- grandchildren; sister, Clara Mae Morris, Bloomington, IL.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, June Schrishuhn.
 
John was a Veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict and a member of the American Legion Post #54, Fairbury, IL.  He was known for his work ethic and worked multiple farming jobs during his adolescence. After returning from the Army, he worked at Caterpillar for 16 years. He then worked for Koehl Enterprises of Fairbury as a welder and millwright and retired after 20 years in 1993. He was an accomplished mechanic and carpenter who built two homes.
 
John obtained his aviation license at the age of 16 and carried it for 30 years. He was a long time member of the Moose and American Legion. John enjoyed boating and watching dirt track racing. As a young mechanic, he worked on race cars.
