Charles Edison "Eddie" Ommen

Charles Edison “Eddie” Ommen, 87, of Arrowsmith, IL and later LeRoy, IL passed away at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at OSF St. Joseph Hospital Bloomington, IL, surrounded by his loving family.
 
Eddie was born July 24, 1930 in Loda, IL, a son of Charles H. and Ina Edland Ommen. He graduated from Arrowsmith High School, and married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Lorig, and they enjoyed 62 years of marriage.
 
He was preceded in death by Barbara; his parents; sister, Betty Anderson; brother-in-law, Ralph Anderson, and brother, Donald.
 
Surviving are his sister, Esther (Ed) Bodart of Eureka, MO, and four children: Joe (Lili) of Tempe, AZ; Jean (Rob) Gill of Urbana, IL; Janet (Atsushi) Fukada of West Lafayette, IN; and Julie (Kirk) Swanson of Lake Zurich, IL. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
 
Eddie began farming with his dad and farmed until his retirement. He served in the Illinois National Guard, was a substitute mail carrier in Arrowsmith, served on the West Township Election Board, and was a member of the Arrowsmith Christian Church.
 
He loved taking road trips, camping, walking on the beach and watching auto racing. He was a devoted husband and father. His children will forever remember camping trips, Cubs baseball games, stock car races, and eating at Steak ‘n Shake with Dad.
 
The family would like to thank the staffs of Luther Oaks and OSF St. Joseph for the wonderful care they gave Eddie.
 
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Arrowsmith Christian Church. Memorial donations may be made to the church.
