Max E. Vandiver

Max E. Vandiver 88 of Clinton, Illinois passed away 6:16 PM July 30, 2017 at Bickford Home, Bloomington, IL.
 
Services will be 10 A.M. Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Greg Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL with military honors. Visitation will be 5 – 7 P.M. Wednesday, August 2, 2017 and 9:30 - 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the funeral home.
 
Memorials may be directed to Rushville-Industry High School FFA.
 
Max was born October 24, 1928 in Macomb, IL the son of Hal and May (Fowler) Vandiver. He married Mary “Ruth” Vandiver June 5, 1955 in Brooklyn, IL. She passed away January 29, 2017.
 
Survivors include his children: Paul (Lisa) Vandiver, LaCygne, KS; Susan (Larry) Duling, Clinton, IL; Steve (Mary) Vandiver, Heyworth, IL; Phil Vandiver, Bloomington, IL; 9 grandchildren: Barbara, Michael, Bryan, Colin, Abby, Maggie, Molly, Lucy and Liam.
 
Max was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother: Don.
 
Max served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He started working at the McNabb State Bank in McNabb, IL and finished his career as the bank president of the Old Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Hillsdale, IL. Max loved his family and farming. He was dedicated to the communities he lived in throughout his career as a bank executive, making sure he supported the businesses, and people, who were his neighbors. He taught a strong sense of loyalty to his family and love of community. Throughout his life, Max enjoyed working on his homes and inventing projects to improve them. He and his wife, Ruth, enjoyed moving and lived throughout Illinois. He was a compassionate banker and made many friends throughout his career. After retirement, he continued to stay involved by volunteering on civic and church boards. He will be dearly missed.
