John D. Short, 78, of LeRoy, Illinois, passed away at 9:05 A.M., Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal, Illinois.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, LeRoy, Illinois with Rev. Richard Gray officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, LeRoy, Illinois with military rites accorded. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the funeral home.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Ruel Neal American Legion Post 79 Memorial Wall Project, the LeRoy Boy Scout Troop # 0950, or a charity of the donor’s choice.

 

Mr. Short was born July 9, 1939 in Bloomington, Illinois to Thelma M. McClintock. He married Judy E. Pray September 9, 1966 in LeRoy, Illinois. She survives in LeRoy, Illinois.

 

Survived by his sons, Tim L. (Amy) Short of St. Joseph, Illinois and Jason John Short of LeRoy, Illinois; granddaughters, Maureen, Audrey, and Katharine Short all of St. Joseph, Illinois.

 

He was preceded in death by his mother and sister, Jackie Burton.

 

John was a Vietnam Era Army veteran. He worked for the Eureka Company in Bloomington for 40 years and was a custodian at the LeRoy High   School for 8 years.

 

He was active with the Boy Scouts in LeRoy in the late 1970s through the late in1980s.
