Joseph D. McRae

Joseph D. McRae, 56, of Mt. Zion, IL passed away at 2:10 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2017, in his residence.
 
A service to celebrate Joe’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 17, 2017, at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Township Cemetery with military honors provided by the Macon County Honor Guard and the US Navy Honor’s team. The family will receive friends for visitation Sunday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Dalton City United Methodist Church. Joe was born August 17, 1960, in Decatur, IL the son of John and Barbara (Sills) McRae. He served in the US Navy for eight years. Joe worked for Caterpillar in the Parts Line. He was a member of the UAW Local #751. He married Luanne Gaitros on September 18, 1993. Joe attended Dalton City United Methodist Church and had a passion for motorcycles and his pets. He was a die-hard Cubs fan.
 
Surviving is his wife: Luanne of Mt. Zion; his father: John of Thomasville, NC, sister: Debbie Sensing and her husband Gary of Thomasville, NC; brothers: John B. McRae and his wife Carol of Mt. Zion and Jim McRae and his wife Michelle of Pinkerington, OH; mother-in-law: Kay Gaitros of Dalton City; special canine companions: Schultzy, Peanut, and Willie.
 
Joe was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law: Carl Gaitros.
