Margaret McCarty Hoffman

Margaret McCarty Hoffman, 96, of Farmer City, Illinois, passed away at 10:50 A.M., Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Farmer City Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Farmer City, Illinois.
 
Mrs. Hoffman was born July 21, 1920 in Rutledge Township, DeWitt County, Illinois, a daughter of Rolland R. and Louise Walden McCarty. She married E. Eugene Hoffman in Farmer City, Illinois on October 27, 1946. He survives in Farmer City, Illinois.
 
Survived by her daughter, Ellen (James) Zellmer of Blue Springs, Missouri; two sons, John (Kathy) Hoffman of Lake Tapawingo, Missouri and William (Catherine) Hoffman of Farmer City, Illinois; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Jean McCarty of Eureka, Illinois.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, James and her brother, John McCarty.
 
Margaret was a graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in journalism and worked on newspapers in Chicago and the Champaign News-Gazette before her marriage. She later worked for the Farmer City Journal.
 
She was a member of the Farmer City United Methodist Church; the Farmer City Genealogical and Historical Society; Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, and Theta Sigma Phi Professional Journalism Sorority. She was a member of the Farmer City Public Library Board where she served as president for 24 years. She was a member of the Woodlawn Country Club where she was an avid golfer. Her hobbies were reading, golf, genealogy, and bridge.
 
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Farmer City, Illinois with Pastor Steve Anderson officiating. Inurnment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Farmer City, Illinois. There will be no visitation.
