Larry D. Wilborn

Larry D. Wilborn, 79, of Monticello, formerly of Champaign, passed away from pulmonary fibrosis at 7:05 p.m., Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Kirby Medical Center, Monticello. His family was by his side.
 
Larry was born on March 18, 1938 in Danville, IL the son of Clifford H. ‘Pete’ and Alice D. ‘Sally’ (Wood) Wilborn. He married Marilyn Grace James on October 23, 1965 in Champaign, IL.
 
Larry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn Wilborn of Monticello; daughter, Laura (Greg) Gelwicks of Manchester, IA; grandchildren, James G. and Mark T. Gelwicks of Manchester, IA; sister, Patricia Busboom of Batavia, IL formerly of Urbana; niece, Shari (Dave) Lendy of Geneva, IL; and nephew, Scott (Paula) Busboom of Decatur, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, son James Todd Wilborn, and brother-in-law Wayne Busboom.
 
Larry graduated from Champaign High School in 1956. He attended the U of Illinois and Eastern Illinois University before entering Northwestern Dental School of which he was a 1964 graduate. After practicing in Champaign for 26 years, he sold his practice. He and his wife started their daylily business Newbury Daylilies, Etc. in Champaign and later moved it to Monticello. Larry was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church.
 
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Monticello United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Bealmear officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until service time, Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Monticello United Methodist Church. Interment will be held in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello is handling the arrangements.
 
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Kirby Medical Center and Harbor Light Hospice of Decatur for their caring services.
