Ethel Buchanan

Ethel Buchanan, 89, of Lincoln, passed away at 10:40 a.m. Sunday (April 9, 2017) at St. Clara’s Manor, Lincoln.
 
Ethel was born May 17, 1927, in Normal, the daughter of Ferdinand and Martha Dillon McGuire. She married Robert C. Buchanan on Dec. 12, 1970, in Lincoln. He preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 1995.
 
Surviving Ethel are her daughter, Vicki Gilbert Ziemer, Charleston, Maine; two stepdaughters, Kathy Danner, Lincoln, and Margaret Ellen Talbert, St. Augustine, Fla.; son-in-law, Scott Ulrey, Watertown, Wis.; one brother, Richard (Liz) McGuire, Towanda; and one granddaughter, Gretchen (Neil Greenberg) Ziemer, Charleston, Maine.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; one brother; one daughter, Sherry Ulrey; and two grandchildren, Rachel and Joel Ziemer.
 
Ethel was a lifelong Baptist. She loved all animals, especially her cats. She loved her family and friends, the Chicago Cubs and going to St. John’s. She was very active in the Relay For Life, where she was an honorary chairman, and also had a team from Eaton Corp., where she was a supervisor, called Ethel’s Angels which raised a lot of funds for cancer research.
 
The graveside service for Ethel will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Zion Cemetery, Lincoln. A reception will follow at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Lincoln American Legion. Memorials may be made in Ethel’s name to the Humane Society of Logan County or American Cancer Society.
