Ruth Irene Sturgeon 84 of Kenney, Illinois passed away 6:42 P.M., March 15, 2017 at her family residence, Kenney, IL.

 

Graveside services will be 10 AM, Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Kenney, IL with Ernie Harvey, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 PM, Friday, March 17, 2017 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, Il.

 

Memorials may be directed to the Kenney Fire Dept.

 

Ruth was born November 25, 1932 in Braymer, Missouri, the daughter of Charles L. and Leota May (Summers) Phillips. She married Lawrence Eugene Sturgeon January 23, 1950 in Clinton, IL. He passed away December 17, 1989. 

 

Survivors include her children: Linda Coleman, Clinton, IL; Mike Sturgeon, Kenney, IL; 4 grandchildren: William Coleman, Maroa, IL, Teresa (Dale) Jimison, Kenney, IL, Michelle (Andrew) Fortune, Clinton, IL and Kaitlin Sturgeon, Kenney, IL; 11 great grandchildren: Alexis Howard, Dylan Jimison, Xavier Jimison, Tabitha Coleman, Skye Coleman, Brooklyn Coleman, Alana Coleman, Ryan Stapleton, Baze Stapleton, Morgan and Austin Fortune; 1 great-great granddaughter: Amazetta Russell.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers: Gene Phillips and Dale Phillips.

 

Ruth was a member of the Kenney Christian Church and a member of the Kenney Cemetery Board. She had been involved with several cemeteries in the DeWitt County area. She worked as an in-home care giver and became very close with the families she served. Along with being a St. Louis Cardinals fan, she enjoyed gardening, flowers, and farming.
