George R. Armstrong 80 of Clinton, IL passed away 2:35 PM February 9, 2017 at his family residence, Clinton, IL.

 

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Ernie Harvey, Jr. officiating. Military honors will follow the services. Visitation will be 5 - 7 P.M. Monday, February 13, 2017 at the funeral home.

 

Memorials may be directed to Clinton AM Vets Post 14.

 

George was born March 28, 1936 in Tunbridge Township, DeWitt County, IL the son of George E. and Marie (Thomas) Armstrong. He married Betty F. McKinney March 14, 1959 in Phoenix, AZ.

 

Survivors include his wife: Betty E. Armstrong, Clinton, IL; children:

Lisa (David) McMurtry, Channahon, IL, Dee Kirwan, Macomb, IL, Ron

Armstrong, Clinton, IL, Robert (Jen) Armstrong, Decatur, IL;

grandchildren: Derek Vickers, Drew Vickers, Sean Kirwan, Brent McMurtry,

Morgan McMurtry, Hope Kirwan, Natalie Kirwan, Nathan Armstrong; great

granddaughter: Sophia Jordan; siblings: Joyce Zieters, Bloomington, IL,

Janice Laramee, Clinton, IL, Marilyn (Joe) Bourn, Lisle, IL, Carol (Noel)

Hutchcraft, Gibson City, IL, and David (Mary) Armstrong, Mansfield, IL.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother: Walter A. Armstrong.

 

George was a member of the Clinton First Christian Church and a U.S. Army

veteran serving with NATO in Izmer, Turkey.

 

He loved to fish and had been a mail courier and farmer.
