Joyce Compton

Joyce A. Compton, 80, of Atlanta, passed away Sunday (Jan. 29, 2017) at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
 
Her graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Atlanta Cemetery. Andy Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Atlanta Cemetery.
 
Joyce Ann Johnson was born June 29, 1936, in Atlanta, the daughter of Oren Brock and Alma Leesman Johnson. She married Orville E. "Speed" Compton on July 10, 1954. He preceded Joyce in death on March 25, 2012.
 
Joyce is survived by their children, Peggy Aper, Atlanta; Susan (Dean) Benedict, Atlanta; and Matthew (Nancy) Compton, Colorado Springs; nieces, Shelly (Randy) Brooks, Atlanta, and Julie (Paul) Homan, El Paso, to whom she was a caring mother; six grandchildren, Angie Neville, Atlanta; Elizabeth (Darrell) Miller, Danvers; Elaina (R.J.) Romani, Washburn; Lyndi (Kory) Leesman, Hartsburg; and Meghan and Rachel Compton, Colorado Springs; five great-grandchildren, Kolton Neville; Raelyn and Clayto Romani; and Levi and Luke "Little Speed" Leesman; one brother, James L. (Barbara) Johnson, Minier; two cousins, Gaylord Wikle, Waynesville, and Ben Leesman, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
 
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jane Bottoms and Judy Ford, and one son-in-law, Ron Aper.
 
Joyce was a 1954 graduate of Atlanta High School. She had served as president of the Atlanta Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1824 Auxiliary. Joyce enjoyed reading, playing cards, crocheting, hunting for morel mushrooms, and fishing at Patterson Bay.
