Doris Carter

Doris Jean Carter, 85, of Lincoln passed away at 3:10 p.m. on Friday (Dec. 2, 2016), at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.

Doris was born April 18, 1931, in New Holland, the daughter of Earl Henry and Callie Pedigo Behrens. She married Gerald R. Carter on Oct. 22, 1949. He preceded her in death on Aug. 1, 2001.

 

Doris is survived by her son, James L. (James W. Schmeltzer) Carter, Chicago; son-in-law, David Laesch, Mount Pulaski; daughter-in-law, Karen Carter, Chestnut; her grandchildren, Dee Anderson, Mount Pulaski; Russ (Sarah) Laesch, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Jamie (Andy) Vaughan, Mount Pulaski; and Rachel (Scott) Getzelman, Clinton; and her nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her son, Kenneth Ray Carter; her daughter, Mary Edith Laesch; and her infant sister.

Doris was a volunteer at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital for over 40 years. She was part of the Home Extension group. Doris loved family gatherings as well as sewing and painting. She was a proud member of the stitching club “Stitchers” at Serendipity in Lincoln. Doris also loved going to breakfast on Wednesday mornings with “The Ladies.”

A memorial service for Doris will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Lincoln, officiated by the Rev. Michael Paulson. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. Burial will take place after the services in Harmony Cemetery, Beason. Memorial donations may be made in Doris’ name to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital or First United Methodist Church, Lincoln.
