Sarah Kay Stone

On the morning of November 1, 2016 Sarah Kay Stone, 29 of San Diego, CA formerly of Clinton, IL, peacefully passed through the gates of Heaven after a ten and a half month battle with appendix cancer; surround by family and tenderly cared for by the staff at UCSD Thornton Hospital, La Jolla, CA.

Services will be 12 Noon Friday, November 11, 2016 at the First Christian Church, Clinton, IL with Ernie Harvey, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL. Visitation will be 4 – 8 P.M. Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the church. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Johnathon Stone, and will be donated to Appendix Cancer Research Foundation in Sarah’s name.

 

Sarah was born October 17, 1987 in Lincoln, IL the second child and first daughter of Franklin W. and Mary Jane (Jackson) Shofner. She married Johnathon E. Stone July 22, 2006 in Clinton, IL.

Survivors include her husband: Johnathon E. Stone, San Diego, CA; 4 beautiful children: Alyssa, Allison, Madylynn and Jackson Stone; her parents: Franklin W. and Mary Jane Shofner, of Clinton, IL; paternal grandmother, Darlene Shofner, Maroa, IL; siblings: Jason Shofner, Clinton, IL, Casandra (Tim) Miracle, Bloomington, IL Marina Shofner, Clinton, IL and Susan Shofner, Clinton, IL, along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Franklin Shofner, Sr.; and maternal grandparents, Grover and Marilyn Jackson.

As a military spouse and stay at home mother of 4 beautiful children, she naturally had a way of making, not only her family but everyone’s life around her better. Sarah was known for her ability to turn any bad situation into a good one. She was an inspiration to everyone she had contact with. No matter what she had going on personally, she always made it a point to put everyone else first. She will always be remembered for the fight she put up against cancer and her ability to stay positive throughout the entire journey. She was without a doubt one of a kind and has had direct impact on thousands of people.
