Rita Mickey

Rita Mickey, 78, of Rantoul, mother of a Clinton woman, went to be with the Lord on the morning of Thursday (April 14, 2016) at Heartland Health Care Center, Paxton.

 

She was born Oct. 21, 1937, in Rawlins, Wyo., a daughter of William and Julia Flynn Waldron. She married Tom Mickey on Feb. 27, 1954, in Cheyenne, Wyo. He preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 2010.

She is survived by three daughters, Lynn Carter, Rantoul; Terri Mickey, Rantoul; and Patty (Jeff) Welch, Clinton; a brother, Bob Waldron, Lancaster, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Mike (Ericka) Carter, Shannon Carter, Kari (Darren) Pratt, Jimmy (Louie Barrios) Youngblood, Cory Hinners, Cody Hinners, Kyle Welch and Ryne Welch; and four great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie, and a granddaughter, Kristy Carter.

 

Rita worked in civil service, retiring from Chanute Air Force Base in 1993. She was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church and was a Dominican associate. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority for over 50 years. She played bunco and bridge and was an avid bowler.

 

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Rantoul. Father Joseph Donton will officiate. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rantoul.

 

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at Lux Memorial Chapel, 1551 E. Grove Ave., Rantoul.

 

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or the Henry J. Smith Trust Fund.
