Juanita Cumi Turney

Juanita Cumi Turney, 92, of Clinton, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Liberty Village in Clinton, surrounded by her family.

 

 

Juanita was born September 8, 1923, in Decatur, to John Wesley and Emma (Laskowski) Howland. She graduated from Lovington High School. She attended Decatur & Macon County School of Nursing through the WWII Cadet Corps Program and graduated in 1946. She was a nurse at John Warner Hospital in Clinton. She married Elmer “Dale” Turney on September 29, 1946, at Grace United Methodist Church in Decatur. She was a member of First Christian Church of Clinton. Juanita enjoyed quilting, square dancing and flower gardening. She loved fishing at the Ozarks and in Minnesota. She also enjoyed attending Bible Study Fellowship International.

 

She is survived by her two sons, Richard (Sue) Turney and Bob (Donna) Turney both of Clinton; two daughters, Deb (Doug) Tilley of Clinton and Jan (Roger) Dial of Maroa; eleven grandchildren, Joshua (Jodi) Turney, John (Timothea) Turney, Jim (Erin) Turney, Tina (Jimmy) McDaniel, Chastity (Larry) Coleman, Carrie (Fred) Zbinden, Kristen (Scott) Davis, Kevin (Mia Oakes) Tilley, Melinda Dial, Alex (Aimee) Dial and Ben Dial; twenty great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; one brother, John “Jack” Wesley Howland II and one sister, Virginia Robbins.

 

Services to celebrate the life of Juanita Turney will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2016, at First Christian Church of Clinton. Visitation will be from 4p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2016, at the church. Burial will be in Oakpark Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Little Galilee or First Christian Church of Clinton.
